NOVENA PRAYER TO ST JOHN BOSCO

(This novena may be said on any nine consecutive days.)

V. O God, come to my aid.
R. O Lord, make haste to help me.

FIRST DAY:
LOVE FOR CHRIST IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

St John Bosco, who loved Christ in the Blessed Sacrament so deeply and spread that love to so many, help me to understand this mystery of God’s love for us that I too may find, in frequent attendance at Mass and Holy Communion and visits to the Blessed Sacrament comfort and strength throughout my life and at the hour of my death. Amen.

GLORY BE to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be; world without end.

LET US PRAY:
GOD OUR FATHER, IT WAS YOUR WILL THAT THROUGH THE INTERCESSION OF THE VIRGIN MARY, ST JOHN BOSCO SHOULD RAISE UP NEW FAMILIES IN THE CHURCH WHO WOULD WORK FOR THE SALVATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE; GRANT, WE PRAY YOU, THAT WE TOO, BURNING WITH THE SAME FIRE OF LOVE, MAY SEEK SOULS AND SERVE YOU ALONE. THROUGH CHRIST OUR LORD.

SECOND DAY:
DEVOTION TO OUR LADY

St John Bosco, who had so enduring a love for Our Lady Help of Christians, ever your Mother and your Guide, help me to share this deep and lasting love for Mary. May I experience her powerful help and protection throughout my life and have her at my side at the hour of my death. Amen.
GLORY BE…, LET US PRAY…

THIRD DAY:
LOYALTY TO CHURCH AND POPE

St John Bosco, you had a deep love for the Church and an unswerving loyalty to the Pope. Help me to be a faithful member of the Catholic Church, proud of my faith and ever loyal and obedient to the Holy Father, the Vicar of Christ, and to the Bishops and priests who share his authority. Amen.
GLORY BE…, LET US PRAY…

FOURTH DAY:
FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

St John Bosco, you had a generous and practical love for the young, for so many of whom you were Father and Guide, working for them with heroic sacrifice. Young people are especially dear to our Saviour. Help us, too, to work for them with a holy and generous love and to see in each one of them the person of the young Christ growing up in Nazareth. Amen.
GLORY BE…, LET US PRAY…

FIFTH DAY:
FOR SALESIAN PRIESTS, BROTHERS AND SISTERS

St John Bosco, you founded the Salesian Society and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians to continue your work for youth. I pray that all these priests, brothers and sisters may be filled with your spirit, your zeal, your love and joy, and so inspire other young people to follow them. Amen.
GLORY BE…, LET US PRAY…

SIXTH DAY:
FOR SALESIAN COOPERATORS

St John Bosco, in order to deepen Faith and Charity in the world, and spread your work for youth, you started a third family, the Salesian Cooperators. May they be strong, fervent, apostolic Christians, supporting your work, and spreading a love of Christ in their homes and among young people wherever they live. Amen.
GLORY BE…, LET US PRAY…

SEVENTH DAY:
FOR MISSIONARIES

St John Bosco, whose zeal for the salvation of men could not be kept within narrow frontiers, you sent your Salesian sons and daughters to the end of the earth. From Heaven intercede for all missionaries that their work be blessed. Obtain for me a zeal like yours that in working with generosity and enthusiasm for the salvation of others, I may save my own soul. Amen.
GLORY BE…, LET US PRAY…

EIGHTH DAY:
FOR PURITY

St John Bosco, by God’s grace you preserved within yourself an overwhelming love for purity and preached it by word and example. You led St Dominic Savio to holiness while he was still a schoolboy. Obtain for me the grace to be pure of heart and so through my own way of life let others see the joy of life in friendship with Christ. Amen.
GLORY BE…, LET US PRAY…

NINTH DAY:
FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND THOSE IN NEED

St John Bosco, you had a heart full of compassion when you saw people suffering or in need. Obtain for me, for my family and loved ones, the blessings of Our Lady Help of Christians and all the graces we need. Pray especially that our families may be united in peace and harmony in this life and be gathered together with you in the joy of praising God for ever in Heaven. Amen.
GLORY BE…, LET US PRAY…

MY GOD, I AM SO SORRY

AN ACT OF CONTRITION WITH GOOD RESOLUTIONS

(Here call to mind the chief sins of your past life and make resolutions against the temptations and dangerous occasions you may meet with this day.)

O my God, how little have I served thee in time past! How greatly have I sinned against thee! I acknowledge my iniquity, and my sin is always before me. But I repent, O Lord, I repent. I am heartily sorry that I have spent that time in offending thee which thou hast given me to be employed in thy service, in advancing the good of my own soul and obtaining everlasting life. I am sorry above all things that I have offended thee, because thou art infinitely good and sin is infinitely displeasing to thee. I desire to love thee with my whole heart, and firmly propose, by the help of thy grace, to serve thee more faithfully in the time to come.

Accept, I implore thee, the offering I now make to thee of the remainder of my life. I renew the vows and promises made in my Baptism. I renounce the devil and all his works, the world and all its pomps. I now begin and will endeavour to spend this day according to thy holy Will, performing all my actions in a manner pleasing to thee. I will take particular care to avoid the failings I am so apt to commit and to exercise the virtues most agreeable to my state in life.
Amen.

NOVENA PRAYER TO OVERCOME GAY / LESBIAN TEMPTATIONS AND THE DESIRE FOR HOMOSEXUAL GRATIFICATION

(This prayer is said on nine consecutive days.)

Saint Aloysius, adorned with angelic virtues, I commend to thee most earnestly chastity of (name the person)’s mind and body.

I pray thee, by thine angelic purity, to commend me (him, her) to the Immaculate Lamb, Jesus Christ, and to His most holy Mother, the Virgin of virgins, and to protect me (him, her) from every grievous sin. Permit me (him, her) not to defile myself (himself, herself) by any spot of impurity; and when thou seest me (him, her) in temptation or in danger of sin, banish far from my (his, her) heart every unclean thought and desire.

Awaken in me (him, her) the thought of Jesus Christ and of eternity; imprint deeply in my (his, her) heart a lively sense of the holy fear of God; set me (him, her) on fire with the love of God, and grant me (him, her) the grace to imitate thee on earth, that I (he, she) may enjoy the possession of God with thee in Heaven.
Amen.

NOVENA PRAYER TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY

Immaculate Heart of Mary, full of love for God and mankind, and of compassion for sinners, I consecrate myself entirely to you. I entrust to you the salvation of my soul. May my heart be ever united with yours, so that I may hate sin, love God, and my neighbour, and reach eternal life together with those whom I love.

Mediatrix of All Graces and Mother of Mercy, remember the infinite treasure which your Divine Son has merited by His sufferings and which He has confided to you for us, your children. Filled with confidence in your motherly Heart, which I venerate and love, I come to you with my pressing needs. Through the merits of your loving Heart, and for the sake of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, obtain for me the favour I ask: (mention your request).

Dearest Mother, if what I ask for should not be according to God’s Will, pray that I may receive that which will be of greater benefit to my soul. May I experience the kindness of your motherly Heart and the power of your intercession with Jesus during this life and at the hour of my death.
Amen.

URGENT MESSAGE OF WORLDWIDE IMPORTANCE: DEVOTION TO THE HEART OF MARY

DEVOTION TO THE SORROWFUL AND IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY

This Message was confided by Our Lord to Berthe Petit, a humble Franciscan Tertiary, born on January 23, 1870, at Enghien, Belgium:

“Teach souls to love the Heart of My Mother pierced by the very sorrows which pierced Mine.” (December 25, 1909)

At the Holy Hour (March 25, 1912) the Blessed Virgin spoke thus:
“I have called myself the Immaculate Conception. To you I call myself Mother of the Sorrowful Heart. This title willed by my Son is dear to me above all others. According as it is spread everywhere, there will be granted graces of mercy, spiritual renewal and salvation.”

PRAYER:
“Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, dwelling pure and holy, cover my soul with your maternal protection, so that being ever faithful to the voice of Jesus, it responds to His love and obeys His Divine Will.
I wish, O my Mother, to keep unceasingly before me your co-redemption in order to live intimately with your Heart that is totally united to the Heart of your Divine Son.
Fasten me to this Heart by your own virtues and sorrows. Protect me always. Amen.”
(Composed by Berthe Petit)

PRAYER TO ST JOHN BOSCO FOR YOUTHS TO READ CLEAN BOOKS AND WEBSITES

ST JOHN BOSCO, PATRON OF EDITORS, FOUNDER, FRIEND OF YOUNG PEOPLE
– FEAST: JANUARY 31

In St John Bosco the liturgy honours a Saint whose soul was all simplicity, joyfulness and zeal, whose trust in divine Providence overcame every difficulty and persisted through every obstacle. Born near Turin in 1815, St John Bosco devoted his life as a priest to the poor, to prisoners and to all the unfortunate of the capital of Piedmont, but especially to poor and homeless children. He sheltered them and educated them and helped them to begin an honest way of life, with no other resources than his unwavering faith, he founded several institutions and also two religious congregations, the Salesian Fathers in 1868, and the Daughters of our Lady Help of Christians in 1876. St John Bosco died in Turin in 1888, leaving behind him the reputation of a great miracle worker.

PRAYER:
Always help us, O Lord, to read good clean literature, both books and electronic media. Through the intercession of St John Bosco grant that, by being preserved from all impurity, we may, with spotless minds and pure in heart, ever burn with the fire of charity to seek after souls and serve You alone, all the days of our life.
Amen.

Mary, Our Lady help of Christians, pray for us.
St John Bosco, pray for us.

PRAYER AGAINST BEING LAZY AND LUKEWARM

O my God, I know well that so negligent a life as mine cannot please thee. I know that by my laziness and lukewarmness I have closed the door to the graces which thou dost desire to bestow upon me.
O my God, do not reject me, as I deserve, but continue to be merciful toward me, and I will make great efforts to amend and to arise from this miserable state. In the future I will be more careful to overcome my passions, to follow thine inspirations, and never through slothfulness will I omit my duties, but will ever strive to fulfil them with greater diligence and fidelity. In short, I will from this time forward do all I can to please thee and will neglect nothing which I know to be pleasing to thee.
Since thou, O my Jesus, hast been so liberal with thy graces toward me and hast deigned to give thy Blood and thy Life for me, I am sorry for having acted with so little generosity toward thee, who art worthy of all honour and all love. But O my Jesus, thou knowest my weakness. Help me with thy powerful grace; in thee I confide. O Immaculate Virgin Mary, help me to overcome myself and become a Saint.
Amen.
