ST WENCESLAUS, MARTYR; MEMORIAL: SEPTEMBER 28th
St Wenceslaus, who was born in Bohemia about 905, was brought up as a Christian, and became Duke in about 922. He was a man of great piety, and worked for the religious and social benefit of his people. He was murdered by his brother in 929, perhaps at the instigation of non-Christians, and was venerated as a martyr.
O God, who taught the Martyr St Wenceslaus
to place the heavenly Kingdom before an earthly one,
grant through his prayers that, denying ourselves,
we may hold fast to you with all our heart.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
