ST MARGARET MARY ALACOQUE, VIRGIN; MEMORIAL: OCTOBER 16
St Margaret Mary Alacoque was born in 1647. Her childhood was unhappy, and she entered the Visitation Convent of Paray-le-Moniale in France in 1671. She received visions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and in her visions was told to encourage devotion to the Sacred Heart, and to have a feast in his honour established. She met a great deal of opposition and scorn, particularly at first, but gradually overcame this with the help of the Blessed Claude de la Colombiere, her confessor at the time.
pour out on us the riches of the Spirit
which you bestowed on Saint Margaret Mary.
May we come to know the love of Christ,
which surpasses all human understanding,
and be filled with the fullness of God.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
