SAINT GERTRUDE, VIRGIN; MEMORIAL: NOVEMBER 16
Born in 1256, St Gertrude was given into a convent at the age of five and received a broad education, particularly in Latin, music and painting. When she was about 25, she underwent a conversion, and from then on devoted herself to a life of contemplation, based on the liturgy. She wrote books concerned with the mystical life, and a collection of prayers, called Spiritual Exercises. She was devoted to the Sacred Heart, and writes about her visions of the Sacred Heart with beauty and simplicity.
you filled the heart of Saint Gertrude
with the presence of your love.
Bring light into our darkness
and let us experience the joy of your presence
and the power of your grace.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
