“Turning the other cheek”, “when he takes your shirt give him your coat also” – humility and forgiveness!
THE FORGIVENESS OF INJURIES
“The good God will forgive only those who have forgiven. It is His law.
Holy people have no hatred, no malice. They forgive everything, and always think that they deserve much more on account of their offences, which they have committed against God.
But bad Christians are vindictive. When we hate our neighbour, God gives us back this hatred. It is a missile which recoils on ourselves.
I said one day to a certain person: ‘But do you not want then to go to Heaven, seeing that you do not wish to see this man?’ ‘Oh, yes! – but we shall try to be far from each other, so as not to see each other.’
They will be spared this trouble, unless they mutually forgive, for the gate of heaven is shut to hatred.
The way to overthrow the devil when he suggests to us thoughts of hatred towards those who do us harm, is to pray immediately for them.”
