“BE JOYFUL AND KEEP THE FAITH” – PRAYER TO ST DAVID

ST DAVID, BISHOP; MEMORIAL: MARCH 1

“Be joyful and keep the faith. Do those little things you have seen and heard from me.”
– St David’s last words to his monks

PRAYER:

God our Father,
you gave the bishop David to the Welsh Church
to uphold the faith
and to be an example of Christian perfection.
In this changing world may he help us to hold fast to the values
which bring eternal life.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

LISTEN LORD! LORD, FORGIVE! (Dn 9:19)

God wipes away our tears of repentance with the hand of mercy. Let us pray for ourselves and for all sinners:

R. Listen Lord! Lord, forgive! (Dn 9:19)

Forgive us our pride: (R.)

Forgive us our stubbornness of heart: (R.)

Forgive us our anger against one another: (R.)

Forgive us our greed in all its forms: (R.)

Forgive us our mercilessness: (R.)

Forgive us the harm we have done: (R.)

(Personal intentions)

Our Father…

God of mercy and compassion, you hold out to us the hand of your mercy to raise us up from the misery our selfish sinfulness has brought upon us and upon those whose lives we touch. Teach us to weep where we have caused weeping, to mourn where we have caused mourning, and to lift up what we have brought low. In hope and trust, we turn to you for healing, through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

PRAISE THE LORD! LET THE EARTH HEAR HIS VOICE! (HYMN)

To God be the glory, great things he has done!
So loved he the world that he gave us his Son;
who yielded his life in atonement for sin,
and opened the life gate that all may go in.

Chorus:

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son:
and give him the glory! Great things he has done!

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood!
To every believer the promise of God;
the vilest offender who truly believes,
that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Great things he has taught us, great things he has done,
and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
but purer and higher, the greater will be
our wonder, our rapture, when Jesus we see.

The Church is surrounded by storm clouds today,
and many have wandered down heresy’s way.
But firmly we hold to the faith we’ve received
and know it’s in Jesus that we have believed.

And so we acclaim him our King and our Lord
who here on the throne of his altar adored,
has shared his new life so that we all might live
and go out to others his love now to give.

ROSARY MEDITATIONS: THE WEDDING FEAST AT CANA

THE WEDDING FEAST AT CANA (2nd LUMINOUS MYSTERY; JOHN 2:1-10)

“Jesus performs His first miracle at the Wedding Feast in Cana”

TURNING WATER INTO WINE

And the third day, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee: and the mother of Jesus was there. And Jesus also was invited, and his disciples, to the marriage. And the wine failing, the mother of Jesus saith to him: “They have no wine.” And Jesus saith to her: “Woman, what is that to me and to thee? My hour is not yet come.”

His mother saith to the waiters: “Whatsoever he shall say to you, do ye.” Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three measures apiece.

Jesus saith to them: “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And Jesus saith to them: “Draw out now and carry to the chief steward of the feast.” And they carried it. And when the chief steward had tasted the water made wine and knew not whence it was, but the waiters knew who had drawn the water: the chief steward calleth the bridegroom, and saith to him: “Every man at first setteth forth good wine, and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse. But thou hast kept the good wine until now. (John 2:1-10)

The sign of water turned into wine at Cana already announces the Hour of Jesus’ glorification. It makes manifest the fulfilment of the wedding feast in the Father’s kingdom, where the faithful will drink the new wine that has become the Blood of Christ.

May I draw ever nearer to the Blessed Virgin Mary who will always encourage me to do whatever Jesus says.

“SHE JUST WANTED TO PRAY: SHE DIDN’T CARE WHO WAS WATCHING”

“A US seminarian has praised an Olympic figure skater as a role model for Catholics.

Evan Pham, who writes the Holy Smack blog and is a seminarian in Detroit, said the South Korean skating star Kim Yuna inspired him to witness to his faith more publicly.

At the 2010 Winter Olympics Mr Pham noticed that Kim Yuna, known as “Queen Yuna” to her fans, did the Sign of the Cross and bowed her head to pray on the ice during the ladies’ final, for which she won gold.

Mr Pham said: ‘There was this young woman out there on the Olympic ice and all these cameras are constantly on her. She was not scared. She just wanted to pray: she didn’t care who was watching.’ Miss Yuna converted to Catholicism in 2008.”

28th FEBRUARY, GOSPEL READING (MARK 10:1-12)

WHAT GOD HAS UNITED, MAN MUST NOT DIVIDE.

Jesus came to the district of Judaea and the far side of the Jordan. And again crowds gathered round him, and again he taught them, as his custom was. Some Pharisees approached him and asked, “Is it against the law for a man to divorce his wife?” They were testing him. He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” “Moses allowed us” they said “to draw up a writ of dismissal and so to divorce.” Then Jesus said to them, “It was because you were so unteachable that he wrote this commandment for you. But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female. This is why a man must leave father and mother, and the two become one body. They are no longer two, therefore, but one body. So then, what God has united, man must not divide.”

Back in the house the disciples questioned him again on this, and he said to them, “The man who divorces his wife and marries another is guilty of adultery against her. And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another she is guilty of adultery too.”

R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

28th FEBRUARY, RESPONSORIAL PSALM (PSALM 102)

R. The Lord is compassion and love.

1. My soul, give thanks to the Lord,
all my being, bless his holy name.
My soul, give thanks to the Lord
and never forget all his blessings. (R.)

2. It is he who forgives all your guilt,
who heals every one of your ills,
who redeems your life from the grave,
who crowns you with love and compassion. (R.)

3. The Lord is compassion and love,
slow to anger and rich in mercy.
His wrath will come to an end;
he will not be angry for ever. (R.)

4. For as the heavens are high above the earth
so strong is his love for those who fear him.
As far as the east is from the west
so far does he remove our sins. (R.)

ALLELUIA

Alleluia, alleluia!
Your precepts, O Lord, are all of them sure;
they stand firm for ever and ever.
Alleluia!

28th FEBRUARY, BIBLE READING (JAMES 5:9-12)

THE JUDGE IS ALREADY TO BE SEEN WAITING AT THE GATES.

Do not make complaints against one another, brothers, so as not to be brought to judgement yourselves; the Judge is already to be seen waiting at the gates. For your example, brothers, in submitting with patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord; remember it is those who had endurance that we say are the blessed ones. You have heard of the patience of Job, and understood the Lord’s purpose, realising that the Lord is kind and compassionate.

Above all, my brothers, do not swear by heaven or by the earth, or use any oaths at all. If you mean “yes”, you must say “yes”; if you mean “no”, say “no”. Otherwise you make yourselves liable to judgement.

V. The word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.

THE NOVENA TO BE SAID ON THE FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH

NOVENA TO OUR LADY OF FATIMA

OFFERING OF NOVENA

O Jesus, it is for love of you, for the conversion of sinners, for the Holy Father and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary that we offer this novena.

THE ANGEL’S PRAYER

My God I believe, I adore, I hope and I love you. I beg pardon for those who believe not, hope not and love you not. (Three times)

Most Blessed Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore you. I offer you the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages by which He Himself is offended.
Through the infinite merits of His Sacred Heart, and through the intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg for the conversion of sinners.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY OF FATIMA

Most Blessed Virgin who, on the Hill of Fatima, did deign to reveal to the three humble little shepherds the treasures of the graces flowing from the practice of reciting the Holy Rosary: impress deeply in my soul esteem for this devotion so dear to you. Grant that, meditating on the mysteries of our redemption therein recalled, we may gather its precious fruits. Grant us in particular to obtain the grace (pause to recall any special request), which we implore through this novena, if it be for the greater glory of God, for your honour and for the good of our souls.

The Rosary is now said:

1st, 4th, 7th days – Joyful mysteries
2nd, 5th, 8th days – Sorrowful mysteries
3rd, 6th, 9th days – Glorious mysteries.

After each “Gloria” of the Rosary this prayer is said:

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of your mercy.

Our Lady of Fatima, inflame our hearts with love of Reparation.

PRAYER FOR ONE’S COUNTRY AND FOR THE PEACE OF THE WORLD

O Queen of the Rosary, Sweet Virgin of Fatima, who has deigned to appear in the land of Portugal, and has brought peace both interior and exterior to that once so troubled country, we beg of you to watch over our dear homeland and assure its moral and spiritual revival.
Bring back peace to all the nations of the world so that all, our own nation in particular, may be happy to call you their Queen and the Queen of Peace. Amen.

Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for our country.
Our Lady of Fatima, obtain for all humanity a lasting peace.

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY

O Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of Heaven and of Earth and tender Mother of mankind, in accordance with your ardent wish made known at Fatima, I consecrate to you myself, my brethren, my country and the whole human race.
Reign over us and teach us how to make the Heart of Jesus reign and triumph in and around us as it has reigned and triumphed in you.
Reign over us, dearest Mother, that we may be thine in prosperity and in adversity, in joy and in sorrow, in health and in sickness, in life and in death.
O most compassionate Heart of Mary, Queen of Virgins, watch over our minds and hearts and preserve them from the deluge of impurity, which you did lament so sorrowfully at Fatima. We want to be pure, like you. We want to atone for the many crimes committed against Jesus and you. We want to call down upon our country and the whole human race the Peace of God in justice and charity. Amen.

PRAYER TO ST MICHAEL

Holy Michael, Archangel, defend us in our day of battle; be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou O Prince of the Heavenly Hosts, by the power of God, thrust down to hell Satan and all other evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.

(Now, as never before, the Church needs the intercession of St Michael. Please say this prayer to St Michael every day, also after you have completed the Novena.)
