Holy Patroness of those in need, St Rita, so humble, pure and patient, whose pleadings with thy Divine Spouse are irresistible, obtain for me from thy Crucified Christ my request. Be kind to me, for the greater glory of God, and I promise to honour thee and to sing thy praises forever. O glorious St Rita, who didst miraculously participate in the sorrowful Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, obtain for me the grace to suffer with resignation the troubles of this life, and protect me in all my needs. Amen.

Loving Father, you call me through baptism to the fullness of life!
Show me how, in my own way and in my own life,
I may come to experience the fullness of your promise.
Give me the wisdom and the courage,
to discover and follow the right path for my life,
free from fear and strengthened by your love –
so that through me others will know “tje lovingkindness of the
heart of our God who visits us like the dawn from on high”
(Lk 1:78). Amen.
Let us pray. O God, who have given the Mother of your beloved Son to be our mother also and were pleased to make her beauteous image famous by its miraculous apparition; grant, we beg you, that by fidelity to her counsels we may be enabled to order our lives in accordance with your will and happily reach our heavenly fatherland. Through the same Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Crown him with many crowns,
The Lamb upon his throne;
Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns
All music but its own:
Awake, my soul, and sing
Of him who died for thee,
And hail him as thy matchless King
Through all eternity.
Crown him the Virgin’s Son,
The God incarnate born,
Whose arm those crimson trophies won
Which now his brow adorn:
Fruit of the mystic Rose,
As of that Rose the Stem;
The Root whence mercy ever flows,
The Babe of Bethlehem.
Crown him the Lord of love!
Behold his hands and side,
Rich wounds yet visible above
In beauty glorified:
No Angel in the sky
Can fully bear that sight,
But downward bends his burning eye
At mysteries so bright.
Crown him the Lord of peace,
Whose power a sceptre sways
From pole to pole, that wars may cease,
Absorbed in prayer and praise:
His reign shall know no end,
And round his pierc-ed feet
Fair flowers of Paradise extend
Their fragrance ever sweet.
Crown him the Lord of years,
The Potentate of time,
Creator of the rolling spheres,
Glassed in a sea of light,
Where everlasting waves
Reflect his throne – the Infinite!
Who lives – and loves – and saves.
– M. Bridges, 1800-94
“Strip yourself of all, and the Heart of Jesus will enrich you. Forget your “self”, and abandon yourself to Him; He will think of you, and care for you.
Lovingly embrace that which most humiliates and lowers you, as being the best means of hastening the triumph of the meek and amiable Heart of Jesus, and of making your heart reign, in turn, in His.
Live there without anxiety, like a child, who has no other care than to love Him and to abandon itself to Him. Let your soul repose in Him, without yielding to trouble or anxiety at the thought of your defects and miseries.”
– St Margaret Mary
My Lord Jesus, I want to love You but You cannot trust me. If You do not help me, I will never do any good. I do not know You; I look for You but I do not find You.
Come to me, O Lord. If I knew You, I would also know myself. I have never loved You before, I want to love You truly now. I want to do Your will alone; putting no trust in myself, I hope in You, O Lord. Amen.
– St Philip Neri
THE ALMIGHTY HAS DONE GREAT THINGS FOR ME, HE HAS EXALTED THE LOWLY.
Mary set out and went as quickly as she could to a town in the hill country of Judah. She went into Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. Now as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She gave a loud cry and said, “Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Why should I be honoured with a visit from the mother of my Lord? For the moment your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled.”
And Mary said:
“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord
and my spirit exults in God my saviour;
because he has looked upon his lowly handmaid.
Yes, from this day forward all generations will call me blessed,
for the Almighty has done great things for me.
Holy is his name,
and his mercy reaches from age to age for those who fear him.
He has shown the power of his arm,
he has routed the proud of heart.
He has pulled down princes from their thrones and exalted the lowly.
The hungry he has filled with good things, the rich sent empty away.
He has come to the help of Israel his servant, mindful of his mercy
– according to the promise he made to our ancestors –
of his mercy to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.”
Mary stayed with Elizabeth about three months and then went back home.
V. The Gospel of the Lord.
R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
O God, by the learning of your blessed confessor Bede, you brought glory to your Church; may we, your servants, be guided by his wisdom and assisted by his merits. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Dear Saint Rita, model wife and widow, you yourself suffered a long illness showing patience out of love for God. Teach us to pray as you did. Many invoke you for help, full of confidence in your intercession.
Deign to come now to our aid for the relief and cure of our illness. To God all things are possible; may this healing give glory to the Lord. Amen.
Almighty God, through the prayers of St Rita, may we learn to bear our crosses in life in the same spirit in which she bore hers. Amen.
O Lord our God, who by your Son Jesus Christ called your Apostles and sent them forth to preach the Gospel to the nations: we bless your holy name for your servant Augustine, first Archbishop of Canterbury, whose labours in propagating your Church among the English people we commemorate; and we pray that all whom you call and send may do your will, and bide your time, and see your glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
