PRAYER TO PADRE PIO FOR HEALING

PRAYER TO PADRE PIO FOR HEALING

Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, obedient father, you loved the sick and infirm more than yourself because in them you saw Jesus. In the name of God you performed miracles of healing in body, soul and mind.

Your intercession with God healed the ills of past and present and strengthened people to respond with confidence to future challenges. Those who came to you regained a sense of spiritual integrity as you rekindled hope in their lives, and encouraged them to renew the spirit in their hearts.

Through the intercession of Our Heavenly Mother, may we experience your powerful assistance and be healed in our bodily and spiritual needs, particularly (name it) and gratefully give praise and thanks to God for all His blessings. Amen.

PRAYER TO ST MATTHEW, EVANGELIST

ST MATTHEW, PATRON SAINT OF BOOKKEEPERS, REVENUE COMMISSIONERS AND ACCOUNTANTS

At the time that Jesus summoned him to follow Him, Matthew was a tax-gatherer for the Romans. His profession was hateful to the Jews because it reminded them of their subjection; he was regarded a typical sinner. Jesus let none of this stand in His way; in the gospel it emerges clearly with what kindness He carried out His mission as Saviour of mankind. St Matthew is known to us as one of the four Evangelists. He was the first one to put down in writing our Lord’s teaching and the account of His life. His Gospel was written in Aramaic, the language of Jesus Himself. St Matthew is numbered as one of the twelve apostles.

PRAYER:

Through the intercession of St Matthew, Evangelist, may we always put aside worldly distractions and follow You, O Lord, as quietly as St Matthew left his work and immediately became one of Your disciples. By his example and prayers help us to follow You without counting the cost and remain faithful in Your service.

Lord hear us, Lord graciously hear us.

HOLY CROSS OF JESUS CHRIST, BE OUR HOPE

God all powerful, who has suffered on the tree of the Cross, be with us, Holy Cross of Jesus Christ, have pity on us. Holy Cross of Jesus Christ, be our hope. Holy Cross of Jesus Christ, turn away from us all sharp weapons. Holy Cross of Jesus Christ, pour into us all good. Holy Cross of Jesus Christ, turn away from us all evil.

Holy Cross of Jesus Christ, make us walk in the paths of salvation. Holy Cross of Jesus Christ, preserve us from all spiritual and temporal accidents. Holy Cross of Jesus Christ, may I adore thee. Holy Cross of Jesus, now and forever, Jesus of Nazareth, crucified, have pity on us, make the invisible fly far from us now and for ever and ever. Amen.

(Holy Mary, Mother of God, St Joseph, St Michael Archangel, and Holy Angels, protect us.)

PRAYER TO STS CORNELIUS AND CYPRIAN

ST CORNELIUS AND ST CYPRIAN, MEMORIAL: SEPTEMBER 16th

St Cyprian was born in Carthage in 210, and became its bishop in 249. At a time of fierce persecution, he encouraged his people, and by word and example led them to understand and witness to the faith. He was martyred in 258. Cornelius became Bishop of Rome in 251, was exiled by Emperor Gallus, and died in exile in 253.

PRAYER:

God our Father,

in Saints Cornelius and Cyprian

you have given your people an inspiring example

of dedication to the pastoral ministry

and constant witness to Christ in their suffering.

May their prayers and faith give us courage

to work for the unity of your Church.

Amen.

A PRAYER OF REPARATION TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

O Heart of Jesus, whose overflowing charity for men is requited by so much forgetfulness, negligence and contempt, behold us prostrate before your altar, eager to repair by a special act of homage the cruel indifference and injuries to which your loving Heart is everywhere subject.

Mindful, alas, that we ourselves have had a share in such great indignities, which we now deplore from the depths of our hearts, we humbly ask your pardon and declare our readiness to atone by voluntary expiation not only for our own personal offences; but also for the sins of those who, straying far from the path of salvation, refuse in their obstinate infidelity to follow you, their Shepherd and Leader, or, renouncing the vows of their Baptism, have cast off the sweet yoke of your law.

We are now resolved to expiate each and every deplorable outrage committed against you; we are determined to make amends for the manifold offences against Christian modesty in unbecoming dress and behaviour, for all the foul seductions laid to ensnare the feet of the innocent, for the frequent violation of Sundays and holy-days, for the shocking blasphemies uttered against you and your Saints. We wish also to make amends for the insults to which your Vicar on earth and your priests are subjected, for the profanation by conscious neglect or terrible acts of sacrilege, of the very Sacrament of your divine love; and lastly for the public crimes of nations, who resist the rights and teaching authority of the Church which you have founded.

Would, O Divine Jesus, we were able to wash away such abominations with our blood. We now offer, in reparation for these violations of your divine honour, the satisfaction you once made to your eternal Father on the Cross and which you continue to renew daily on our altars; we offer it in union with the acts of atonement of your Virgin Mother and all the Saints and of the pious faithful on earth; and we sincerely promise to make recompense, as far as we can with the help of your grace, for all neglect of your great love and for the sins we and others have committed in the past. Henceforth, we will live a life of unwavering faith, of purity of conduct, of perfect observance of the precepts of the Gospel and especially that of charity. We promise to the best of our ability to prevent others from offending you and to bring as many as possible to follow you.

O loving Jesus, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our model in reparation, deign to receive the voluntary offering we make of this act of expiation; and by the crowning gift of perseverance keep us faithful unto death in our duty and the allegiance we owe to you, so that we may one day come to that happy home, where you with the Father and the Holy Spirit live and reign, God, world without end. Amen.

PRAYER FOR QUEEN ELIZABETH II ON THE OCCASION OF HER BECOMING THE LONGEST REIGNING MONARCH IN BRITISH HISTORY

V. O Lord, save Elizabeth our Queen.

R. And hear us on the day we call upon you.

V. Lord, hear my prayer.

R. And let my cry come before you.

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And with your Spirit.

Almighty God, we pray that Elizabeth your Servant and Our Queen, who, by your providence has received the governance of this Realm, may continue to grow in every virtue, that, imbued with your heavenly grace, she may be preserved from all that is harmful and evil, and being blessed with your favour may, with her Consort and all the Royal Family, come at last into your presence, through him who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, Our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God, for ever and ever. PRAYER FOR REFUGEES

PRAYER FOR REFUGEES

Lord,

no one is a stranger to you

and no one is ever far

from your loving care.

In your kindness

watch over the refugees and exiles,

those separated from their loved ones,

young people who are lost,

and those who have left

or run away from home.

Bring them back safely

to the place where they long to be,

and help us always to show your kindness

to strangers and those in need.

Amen.
