Zepherin Namuncurá was born in Argentina in 1886, son of the last Mapuche Chief. Zepherin loved Our Lady and the Blessed Sacrament, and wishing to bring his people the true religion, decided to be a priest.
A deep love for Our Lady and Our Lord Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament
While in the seminary he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. In 1904 the Bishop took him to Rome, hoping a change of climate would prove beneficial without disrupting his studies for the priesthood. Zepherin continued his studies, but his health did not improve. Even with the terrible pain, he always had a smile and kept his same gentle and patient spirit. He died on 11 May 1905 and was beatified in 2007.
