Charity is the daughter of heaven.
Without charity, nothing avails me, with charity I am all-powerful. Charity is patient, benevolent, self-sacrificing, forgiving.
What happiness to be able to forgive!
If my head were cut off, I would wish that it were possible to put it on again, in order to forgive, and to have it cut off again in order to forgive again. Saint Paul says that if he had not been the victim of mercy on the road to Damascus [Acts 9:1-30], he could not so well have preached mercy. Mercy is the love of God giving itself to us.
