PRAYER OF ST JOHN FISHER FOR THE CHURCH

PRAYER OF ST JOHN FISHER FOR THE CHURCH

Good Lord, set in thy Church strong and mighty pillars,

that may suffer and endure great labours,

which also shall not fear persecution,

neither death

but always suffer with a good will

slanders, shame, and all kinds of torments,

for the glory and praise of thy Holy Name.

By this manner, good Lord,

the truth of thy Gospel

shall be preached throughout the world.

Therefore, merciful Lord,

exercise thy mercy,

show it indeed upon thy Church.

Amen.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL

Most glorious Virgin, chosen by the Eternal Counsel to be the Mother of the Eternal Word made flesh, treasure of divine grace and advocate of sinners, I, the most unworthy of thy servants, beseech thee to be my guide and counsellor in this vale of tears.

Obtain for me by the most Precious Blood of thy Son the pardon of my sins, the salvation of my soul, and the means necessary to obtain it. Grant that the Holy Catholic Church may triumph over her enemies, and that the Kingdom of Christ may be propagated on earth. Amen.

[100 days. – Leo XIII, Nov. 23rd, 1880]

A PRAYER FOR THE CHURCH THROUGH THE INTERCESSION OF ST LEO

O Lord our God, grant that thy Church, following the teaching of thy servant Leo of Rome, may hold fast the great mystery of our redemption, and adore the one Christ, true God and true Man, neither divided from our human nature nor separate from thy divine Being; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, now and for ever.

O God, You established Your Church on the solid rock of St Peter. Grant that she may persevere in Your truth and enjoy continual peace through the intercession of Pope St Leo. Amen.

PRAYERS FOR POPE FRANCIS ON THE SOLEMNITY OF STS PETER AND PAUL

“On this Solemnity of Sts Peter and Paul let us remember to pray for Pope Francis, the successor of St Peter. Pope Francis has shown great courage in reforming the Roman Curia and the Vatican Bank. He also lives a simple lifestyle and shows a great example how we should live a Gospel life in the Church. His mercy and love has been admired by people all over the world and he has travelled much to make contact with those in the church who particularly need support. A few days ago Pope Francis issued an encyclical letter addressed to all peoples of the world concerning environmental issues. This will contribute greatly to the discussion taking place about how we look after our planet, which is our common home.

So we should pray for Pope Francis that he will fulfil the mission given to him by God and that he will always be open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in leading us in the Church.” (St Saviour’s)
