LORD JESUS, RECEIVE MY SOUL, AMEN

LORD JESUS, RECEIVE MY SOUL, AMEN

DIVINE JESUS

Divine Jesus, Incarnate Son of God, Who for my salvation didst vouchsafe to be born in a stable, to pass thy life in poverty, trials, and misery, and to die amid the sufferings of the Cross, I entreat thee, say to thy Divine Father, at the hour of my death: “Father, forgive him,” say to thy beloved Mother: “Behold thy son,” and to my soul: “This day thou shalt be with me in Paradise.”

My God, my God, forsake me not in that hour. I thirst, yes, my soul thirsts after thee, who art the fountain of living waters. My life passes like a shadow; yet a little while, and all will be consummated. Wherefore my adorable Saviour! from this moment, for all eternity, into thy hands I commend my spirit. Lord Jesus, receive my soul. Amen.

[His Holiness Pope Pius IX., by a decree of the Sacred Congregation of Indulgences, June 10th, 1856, confirmed an Indulgence of three hundred days, to be gained by all the faithful every time that they shall say the foregoing with contrite heart and devotion.]

PRAYER FOR A HAPPY DEATH

PRAYER FOR A HAPPY DEATH

PRAYER OF ST FRANCIS XAVIER TO ST MICHAEL FOR A HAPPY DEATH

O powerful Protector of those who invoke thee, holy Archangel Michael, defend me against the attacks of Satan every moment of my life, and, above all, when the Sovereign Judge shall call me to render to Him an account of all my actions and of my fidelity in the accomplishment of His holy law. Amen.

ANTIPHON TO THE ARCHANGEL MICHAEL

St Michael Archangel, defend us in the day of battle, that we may not be lost in the dreadful judgment.

PRAYER FOR A HAPPY DEATH

PRAYER FOR A HAPPY DEATH

We thank God, O Saint Alphonsus,
for the tender devotion
with which He inspired you
for His Holy Mother.
We ask you to obtain for us
a filial love for our Lady of Perpetual Help,
so that she may assist us
in our last agony as she did you,
and that we may die
under her mantle a happy death.
Amen.

PRAYER TO OUR LORD ON THE CROSS

PRAYER TO OUR LORD ON THE CROSS

My Crucified Jesus, mercifully accept the prayer which I now make to thee for help in the moment of my death, when all my senses shall fail me.

When, therefore, O sweetest Jesus, my weary and downcast eyes can no longer look up to thee, be mindful of the loving gaze which now I turn on thee, and have mercy on me.

When my parched lips can no longer kiss thy Most Sacred Wounds, remember then those kisses which now I imprint on thee, and have mercy on me.

When my cold hands can no longer embrace thy Cross, forget not the affection with which I embrace it now, and have mercy on me.

And when, at length, my swollen and lifeless tongue can no longer speak, remember that I called upon thee now.

Jesus, Joseph, Mary, to you I commend my soul.

[Indulgence of 300 days, once a day. Plenary twice a year. – Pius X, September 4th, 1903.]

NIGHT PRAYER (II)

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Blessed be the holy and undivided Trinity, now and forever. Amen.

Our Father…, Hail Mary…, I believe in God…

Come O Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love.
V. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
R. And you shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray:
O God, who has taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that, by the gift of the same Spirit, we may be always truly wise, and ever rejoice in his consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

(Let us place ourselves in the presence of God, and give him thanks for all the benefits which we have received from him, particularly today.)

O my God, I firmly believe that you are here, and perfectly see me, and that you observe all my actions, all my thoughts, and the most secret motions of my heart. You watch over me with an incomparable love, every moment bestowing favours and preserving me from evil. Blessed be your holy Name, and may all creatures bless your goodness for the benefits which I have ever received from you, and particuarly today. May the Saints and Angels make up for my defects in giving you due thanks. Never permit me to repay your bounties with ingratitude, and your blessings with offences and injuries.

(Let us ask our Lord Jesus Christ the grace to discover the sins which we have committed today, and beg of him a true sorrow for them, and a sincere repentance.)

O my Lord Jesus Christ, Judge of the living and dead, before whom I must appear one day to give an exact account of my whole life; enlighten me, I beg you, and give me a humble and contrite heart, that I may see where I have offended your infinite majesty; and judge myself now with such a just severity, that then you may judge me with mercy and clemency.

(Let us here examine what sins we have committed today, by thought, word, deed or omission. (If you cannot think of any sin you have committed today, renew your sorrow for the sins of your past life). Let us conceive a great sorrow for having offended God).

O my God, I detest these and all other sins which I have committed against your Divine Majesty. I am extremely sorry that I have offended you, because you are infinitely good, and sin displeases you. I love you with my whole heart, and firmly propose, by the help of your grace, never more to offend you. I resolve to avoid the occasions of sin; I will confess my. Sins, and will endeavour to make reparation for them. Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy, and pardon me, a wretched sinner. In the Name of your beloved Son, Jesus, I humbly beg you to wash me with his Precious Blood so that my sins may be entirely remitted.

(Say the Hail Holy Queen to our Blessed Lady for the grace of a happy death, then three Hail Marys).

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, assist me in my last agony.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, may I breathe forth my soul in peace with you.
