TODAY’S BIBLE READING I (ISAIAH 25:6-10)

(28. Sunday in Ordinary Time)

THE LORD WILL PREPARE A BANQUET, AND WILL WIPE AWAY TEARS FROM EVERY CHEEK.

And the Lord of hosts shall make unto all people in this mountain, a feast of fat things, a feast of wine, of fat things full of marrow, of wine purified from the lees.

And he shall destroy in this mountain the face of the bond with which all people were tied, and the web that he began over all nations.

He shall cast death down headlong for ever: and the Lord God shall wipe away tears from every face, and the reproach of his people he shall take away from off the whole earth: for the Lord hath spoken it.

And they shall say in that day: Lo, this is our God, we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the Lord, we have patiently waited for him, and we shall rejoice and be joyful in his salvation.

For the hand of the Lord shall rest in this mountain: and Moab shall be trodden down under him, as straw is broken in pieces with the wain.

V. The word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.

TODAY’S BIBLE READING I (ISAIAH 5:1-7)

(27. Sunday in Ordinary Time)

THE VINEYARD OF THE LORD OF HOSTS IS THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL.

I will sing to my beloved the canticle of my cousin concerning his vineyard. My beloved had a vineyard on a hill in a fruitful place.

And he fenced it in, and picked the stones out of it, and planted it with the choicest vines, and built a tower in the midst thereof, and set up a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

And now, O ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and ye men of Juda, judge between me and my vineyard.

What is there that I ought to do more to my vineyard, that I have not done to it? was it that I looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it hath brought forth wild grapes?

And now I will shew you what I will do to my vineyard. I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be wasted: I will break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down.

And I will make it desolate: it shall not be pruned, and it shall not be digged: but briers and thorns shall come up: and I will command the clouds to rain no rain upon it.

For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel: and the man of Juda, his pleasant plant: and I looked that he should do judgment, and behold iniquity: and do justice, and behold a cry.

V. The word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.

TODAY’S BIBLE READING I (EZEKIEL 18:25-28)

(26th Sunday in Ordinary Time)

WHEN THE SINNER RENOUNCES SIN, HE SHALL CERTAINLY LIVE.

And you have said: The way of the Lord is not right. Hear ye, therefore, O house of Israel: Is it my way that is not right, and are not rather your ways perverse?

For when the just turneth himself away from his justice, and committeth iniquity, he shall die therein: in the injustice that he hath wrought he shall die.

And when the wicked turneth himself away from his wickedness, which he hath wrought, and doeth judgment, and justice: he shall save his soul alive.

Because he considereth and turneth away himself from all his iniquities which he hath wrought, he shall surely live, and not die.

V. The word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.

TODAY’S BIBLE READING I (ISAIAH 55:6-9)

(25th Sunday in Ordinary Time)

MY THOUGHTS ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS.

Seek the Lord while he is still to be found,
call to him while he is still near.
Let the wicked man abandon his way,
the evil man his thoughts.
Let him turn back to the Lord who will take pity on him,
to our God who is rich in forgiving;
for my thoughts are not your thoughts,
my ways not your ways – it is the Lord who speaks.
Yes, the heavens are as high above the earth
as my ways are above your ways,
my thoughts above your thoughts.

V. The word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.

TODAY’S BIBLE READING I (EZEKIEL 33:7-9)

(23. Sunday in Ordinary Time)

IF YOU DO NOT SPEAK TO THE WICKED MAN, I WILL HOLD YOU RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS DEATH.

So thou, O son of man, I have made thee a watchman to the house of Israel: therefore thou shalt hear the word from my mouth, and thou shalt tell it from me.

When I say to the wicked: O wicked man, thou shalt surely die: if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked man from his way: that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at thy hand.

But if thou tell the wicked man, that he may be converted from his ways, and he be not converted from his way: he shall die in his iniquity: but thou hast delivered thy soul.

V. The word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.

TODAY’S BIBLE READING (JEREMIAH 20:7-9)

(22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time)

THE WORD OF THE LORD HAS MEANT INSULT FOR ME.

Thou hast deceived me, O Lord, and I am deceived: thou hast been stronger than I, and thou hast prevailed. I am become a laughing-stock all the day, all scoff at me.

For I am speaking now this long time, crying out against iniquity, and I often proclaim devastation: and the word of the Lord is made a reproach to me, and a derision all the day.

Then I said: I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name: and there came in my heart as a burning fire, shut up in my bones, and I was wearied, not being able to bear it.

V. The word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.

TODAY’S BIBLE READING I (ISAIAH 22:19-23)

(21. Sunday in Ordinary Time)

I PLACE THE KEY OF THE HOUSE OF DAVID UPON HIS SHOULDER.

And I will drive thee out from thy station, and depose thee from thy ministry.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliacim the son of Helcias,

And I will clothe him with thy robe, and will strengthen him with thy girdle, and will give thy power into his hand: and he shall be as a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Juda.

And I will lay the key of the house of David upon his shoulder: and he shall open, and none shall shut: and he shall shut, and none shall open.

And I will fasten him as a peg in a sure place, and he shall be for a throne of glory to the house of his father.

V. The word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.

TODAY’S BIBLE READING (EZEKIEL 43:1-7)

(Week 20 of the year: Saturday)

THE GLORY OF THE LORD ARRIVED AT THE TEMPLE.

And he brought me to the gate that looked towards the east.

And behold the glory of the God of Israel came in by the way of the east: and his voice was like the noise of many waters, and the earth shone with his majesty.

And I saw the vision according to the appearance which I had seen when he came to destroy the city: and the appearance was according to the vision which I had seen by the river Chobar: and I fell upon my face.

And the majesty of the Lord went into the temple by the way of the gate that looked to the east.

And the spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court: and behold the house was filled with the glory of the Lord.

And I heard one speaking to me out of the house, and the man that stood by me,

Said to me: Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever: and the house of Israel shall no more profane my holy name, they and their kings by their fornications, and by the carcasses of their kings, and by the high places.

V. The word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.

TODAY’S BIBLE READING (EZEKIEL 37:1-14)

DRY BONES, HEAR THE WORD OF THE LORD.
I MEAN TO RAISE YOU FROM YOUR GRAVES, HOUSE OF ISRAEL.

The hand of the Lord was upon me, and brought me forth in the spirit of the Lord: and set me down in the midst of a plain that was full of bones.

And he led me about through them on every side: now there were very many upon the face of the plain, and they were exceedingly dry.

And he said to me: Son of man, dost thou think these bones shall live? And I answered: O Lord God, thou knowest.

And he said to me: Prophesy concerning these bones; and say to them: Ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.

Thus saith the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will send spirit into you, and you shall live.

And I will lay sinews upon you, and I will cause flesh to grow over you, and will cover you with skin: and I will give you spirit and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.

And I prophesied as he had commanded me: and as I prophesied there was a noise, and behold a commotion: and the bones came together, each one to his joint.

And I saw, and behold the sinews, and the flesh came up upon them: and the skin was stretched out over them, but there was no spirit in them

And he said to me: Prophesy to the spirit, prophesy, O son of man, and say to the spirit: Thus saith the Lord God: Come, spirit, from the four winds, and blow upon these slain, and let them live again.

And I prophesied as he had commanded me: and the spirit came into them, and they lived: and they stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

And he said to me: Son of man: All these bones are the house of Israel: they say: Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost, and we are cut off.

Therefore prophesy, and say to them: Thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will open your graves, and will bring you out of your sepulchres, O my people: and I will bring you into the land of Israel.

And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have opened your sepulchres, and shall have brought you out of your graves, O my people:

And shall have put my spirit in you, and you shall live, and I shall make you rest upon your own land: and you shall know that I the Lord have spoken, and done it, saith the Lord God.

V. The word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.

TODAY’S BIBLE READING (EZEKIEL 36:23-28)

(Week 20 of the year: Thursday)

I WILL GIVE YOU A NEW HEART, AND PUT A NEW SPIRIT IN YOU.

And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the Gentiles, which you have profaned in the midst of them: that the Gentiles may know that I am the Lord, saith the Lord of hosts, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

For I will take you from among the Gentiles, and will gather you together out of all the countries, and will bring you into your own land.

And I will pour upon you clean water, and you shall be cleansed from all your filthiness, and I will cleanse you from all your idols.

And I will give you a new heart, and put a new spirit within you: I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and will give you a heart of flesh.

And I will put my spirit in the midst of you: and I will cause you to walk in my commandments, and to keep my judgments, and do them.

And you shall dwell in the land which I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.

V. The word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.
