“MAY THE GOD OF PEACE MAKE US PERFECT AND HOLY” – INTERCESSIONS

God dwells with the crushed and dejected in spirit. For them, let us pray:

R. Lord, hear the cry of the poor.

For those who suffer chronic illness:
– grant them patient endurance. (R.)

For those who suffer mental or emotional illness:
– grant them peace of mind. (R.)

For those who suffer terminal illness:
– grant them hope as they approach you. (R.)

For all who love and care for the sick:
– grant them the reward of your love. (R.)

(Personal intentions)

Our Father…

May the God of peace make us perfect and holy; and may we all be kept safe and blameless, spirit, soul, and body, for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. (c.f. 1 Th 5:23)

ONCE SHE STARTED GOING TO DAILY MASS, SHE BECAME VERY CALM, BALANCED AND CHEERFUL

OUR SOULS NEED GOD

“I once knew a family whose mother was in and out of a psychiatric ward. She was not a Catholic, though the rest of the family were. It seemed to me that if she became a Catholic and started going to the sacraments she would stay calm and keep out of hospital. She was happy to become a Catholic, so I instructed her and received her into the Church and she started going to daily Mass. She soon became very calm and balanced and cheerful – she seemed almost a different person.

HER CHILDREN SAID THE ROSARY FOR HER

Then she went back to West Africa on holiday, and her mother made her go to her own local church, one, I fancy, that dabbled in witchcraft. The poor woman came back as bad as ever, and when I went to see her in her psychiatric ward she would not even speak to me. However, her children started saying the rosary for her every day, and their mother came out of hospital and resumed her sacramental life. Once more she became peaceful and contented, and all was well again. When she went to the sacraments she was fine, but when she didn’t she lost her balance completely.

WE WERE NOT MEANT TO REMAIN MERE HUMAN BEINGS

I suppose you could say that in God’s original design we were never meant to remain mere human beings. We were meant to be also living that sharing in God’s life which we call the life of grace.

SIN TIES KNOTS IN THE SOUL, KNOTS THAT NO PSYCHIATRIST CAN UNRAVEL

The sin of our first parents introduced a flaw into the product. The sacraments are the remedy, the supplement, the correction, that God has provided to make good the fault. But it’s up to us to decide whether we use it or not.

Our Lord is like the doctor of our soul when he comes to us in the sacraments. The same Jesus who went around Galilee, doing good and healing all manner of diseases, is still healing our sick souls when we turn to him for help.

Sin ties knots in the soul, knots that no psychiatrist can unravel. But God can, and he does it in the sacraments, in baptism to begin with, and then in confession.”

PRAYER THROUGH ST RITA, SAINT OF THE IMPOSSIBLE, IN SERIOUS ILLNESS

O Holy Patroness of those in need, St Rita, whose pleadings before thy Divine Lord are almost irresistible, who for thy lavishness in granting favours hast been called the Advocate of the Hopeless and even of the Impossible; St Rita, so humble, so pure, so mortified, so patient and of such compassionate love for thy Crucified Jesus that thou couldst obtain from Him whatsoever thou asketh, on account of which all confidently have recourse to thee, expecting, if not always relief, at least comfort; be propitious to our petition, showing thy power with God on behalf of thy suppliant; be lavish to us, as thou hast been in so many wonderful cases, for the greater glory of God, for the spreading of thine own devotion, and for the consolation of those who trust in thee. Amen.

GOD IS OUR PROMISED SHELTER AND OUR SHADE

God is our promised shelter and our shade. To him we pray:

R. Protect us from all harm.

In the midst of life’s tribulations,
– strengthen our hope in your promised kingdom. (R.)

In the midst of physical ailments,
– grant us trust in your healing power. (R.)

In the midst of worry and distress,
– send us peace of heart. (R.)

(Personal intentions)

Our Father…

May the blessing of almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, descend on us and remain with us for ever. Amen.

A “GET WELL” – PRAYER

PRAYER FOR THE RESTORATION OF HEALTH:

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I come to ask You for the gift of restored health that I may serve You more faithfully and love You more sincerely. I want to be well if it is Your will and redounds to Your glory.

If on the other hand it is Your will that my sickness continue, I want to bear it with patience. If in Your divine wisdom I am to be restored to health and strength, I will strive to show my gratitude by a constant and faithful service rendered to You, my loving Saviour and Redeemer, and my God. Amen.
