PRAYER TO ST JUSTIN

PRAYER TO ST JUSTIN

St Justin, Martyr; Feast Day: June 1

O God, who through the foolishness of the cross wondrously taught blessed Justin, your Martyr, the lofty wisdom of Jesus Christ, grant that by his intercession we may reject the wiles of error and attain firmness of faith. Through the same Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

ST JUSTIN – CONDEMNED TO DEATH AND MARTYRED

Saint Justin, Martyr; [Memorial: June 1]

Justin was a Greek, born in Palestine. He loved philosophy so much that he became a student of all the philosophical schools, but finally discovered only false wisdom in them.

By the grace of God, he accepted the truth of the Catholic faith. He then studied Sacred Scripture constantly, and received increased knowledge of Christ and the Faith. He wrote many works explaining and propagating the Faith, among which two apologies, in particular, excel.

An early apologist

When he presented these to the Emperor Antonius and his sons, and vigorously disputed and defended the faith, he obtained from the government a public edict which put a stop to the slaughter of Christians.

But Justin himself was seized by the followers of Crescens the Cynic, whose wicked life and conduct he had denounced. He remained steadfast to the Faith before Rusticus, the prefect, and was condemned to death and martyred.
