THE SUPERNATURAL SPIRIT WILL ALWAYS MANIFEST ITSELF AND ACT AS A PROTECTION

THE SUPERNATURAL SPIRIT WILL ALWAYS MANIFEST ITSELF AND ACT AS A PROTECTION

MARY’S ARMY

Previous chapter: THE SPIRIT OF ENVY CANNOT CO-EXIST WITH TRUE APOSTLESHIP

HOLINESS THROUGH MARY

The Child of Mary finds his charity put to the test. Even though he may feel no temptation when alone to self-will, pride, passion or unbelief; when he assembles together with others, those evil things which have lain dormant tend to burst into flame. The innate debility of human nature shows itself: Christian simplicity and straightforwardness are strangely forgotten. The larger the numbers grow, the more scope there is for criticisms and disagreements. But, in the Child of Mary, the torch of faith is lighted by the fire of charity. If the flame be strong, the supernatural spirit will always manifest itself and act as a protection of the whole body against the fatal spirit of worldly jealousies and ambitions. Words, attitudes and conduct which are in any way hostile to charity will be completely banished and the spirit of prayer will reign triumphant.

“NO ONE WINS BY HIMSELF, NOT ON THE FIELD OR IN LIFE!

“We are now coming into the last week of the football [soccer] World Cup in Brazil. Many of us will be disappointed that England did not get through to the knockout stage, but some of you might be very happy that the team from your home country is still in with a chance of winning the World Cup.

Pope Francis sent a video message to Brazil and this was shown on Brazilian television preceding the opening ceremony of the World Cup. Here are some of the Pope’s words.

‘It is with great joy that I address you, lovers of football, on the occasion of the opening of the 2014 World Cup. I would like to send a cordial greeting to the organisers and the participants; to every athlete and every fan, as well as to all the spectators who will follow the event in the stadiums and on television, the radio and internet, an event which crosses language, cultural and national barriers…

Think of loyalty, perseverance, friendship, sharing, and solidarity. There are, in fact, many values and attitudes which football promotes and which prove to be important not only on the field but in all fields of existence, and specifically in building peace. Sport is a school of peace, it teaches us how to build peace. In this sense, I would like to point out three lessons for practising sports, three fundamental attitudes for the cause of peace: the need to ‘train’, fair play, and respect for the opponent…

The lesson for sports which bears the fruit of peace is the respect deserved by our opponents. The secret to winning on the field, and also in life, is to respect my teammates and also my opponent. No one wins by himself, not on the field or in life!…

And if it is true that in the end of the tournament only one national team will win the Cup, likewise, it is also true that, by learning the lessons that sports teach us, we will all be winners, strengthening the bonds that tie us together.”

TODAY’S GOSPEL READING (JOHN 17:20-26)

MAY THEY BE COMPLETELY ONE.

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said:
“Holy Father,
I pray not only for these,
but for those also
who through their words will believe in me.
May they all be one.
Father, may they be one in us,
as you are in me and I am in you,
so that the world may believe it was you who sent me.
I have given them the glory you gave to me,
that they may be one as we are one.
With me in them and you in me,
may they be so completely one
that the world will realise that it was you who sent me
and that I have loved them as much as you loved me.

Father,
I want those you have given me
to be with me where I am,
so that they may always see the glory
you have given me
because you loved me
before the foundation of the world.
Father, Righteous One,
the world has not known you,
but I have known you,
and these have known
that you have sent me.
I have made your name known to them
and will continue to make it known,
so that the love with which you loved me may be in them,
and so that I may be in them.”

V. The Gospel of the Lord.
R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

TRUE FREEDOM IS ONLY IN GOD (POEM)

WITH A DIVINE INTENTION

Without support, yet well supported,
Though in pitch-darkness, with no ray,
Entirely I am burned away.

My spirit is so freed from every
Created thing, that through the skies,
Above herself, she’s lifted, flies,
And as in a most fragrant reverie,
Only on God her weight applies.
The thing which most my faith esteems
For this one fact will be reported –
Because my soul above me streams
Without support, yet well supported.

What though I languish in the shades
As through my mortal life I go,
No over-heavy is my woe
Since if no glow my gloom invades,
With a celestial life I glow.
The love of such a life, I say,
The more benightedly it darkens,
Turns more to that to which it hearkens,
Though in pitch-darkness, with no ray.

Since I knew Love, I have been taught
He can perform most wondrous labours.
Though good and bad in me are neighbours
He turns their difference to naught
Then both into Himself, so sweetly,
And with a flame so fine and fragrant
Which now I feel in me completely
Reduce my being, till no vagrant
Vestige of my own self can stay.
And wholly I am burned away.
– St John of the Cross

14th JULY, BIBLE READING II (COLOSSIANS 1:15-20)

CHRIST BRINGS ALL THINGS TO PERFECTION AND COMPLETION.

Christ Jesus is the image of the unseen God and the firstborn of all creation, for in him were created all things in heaven and on earth: everything visible and everything invisible, Thrones, Dominations, Sovereignties, Powers – all things were created through him and for him. Before anything was created, he existed, and he holds all things in unity. Now the Church is his body, he is its head. As he is the Beginning, he was first to be born from the dead, so that he should be first in every way; because God wanted all perfection to be found in him and all things to be reconciled through him and for him, everything in heaven and everything on earth, when he made peace by his death on the cross.

PRAYER FOR THOSE SEPARATED FROM THE CHURCH; DIVINE MERCY NOVENA, DAY 5

I. Pray the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy.

II. Additional Prayer:

Most Merciful Jesus, Goodness Itself, You do not refuse light to those who seek it of You. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who have separated from Your Church. Draw them by Your light into the unity of the Church, and do not let them escape from the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart; but bring it about that they, too, come to glorify the generosity of Your mercy.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who are separated from Your Son’s Church, especially those who have squandered Your blessings and misused Your graces by obstinately persisting in their errors. Do not look upon their errors, but upon the love of Your own Son and upon His bitter Passion, which He underwent for their sake, since they, too, are enclosed in His Most Compassionate Heart. Bring it about that they also may glorify Your great mercy for endless ages. Amen.

“WE PRAY TOGETHER AND GIVE THANKS FOR THE UNITY OF FAITH”

CHRISTIANS DURING THE SEASON OF LENT

It is an excellent thing to pass from one prayer to another, to advance from keeping one fast or solemnity to another. Now we are very near to that time which is a new beginning for us, the blessed Passion in which the Lord was sacrificed.

We are nourished by the Food of Life and, with His precious Blood as from a fountain, we delight our souls. God gives the happiness of salvation and gathers us all together, uniting us spiritually wherever we may be, helping us to pray together and give thanks in the unity of faith.
– St Athanasius, 4th century
