PRAYER TO ST ISIDORE, PATRON SAINT OF FARMERS

15 May

St Isidore was born at Valencia in 559. Having entered the Dominican Order at the age of 17, he turned out to be a vehement orator who subsequently travelled all over France, Spain and Italy to exhort sinners to repentance with stern warnings. He was regarded as one of the most learned men of his time and also became Archbishop of Seville. He died in 636. He is patron saint of farmers. Some sources mention St Isidore together with Sts Adelard, Fiacre and Phocas, who are also patrons of gardeners, labourers and working men.

PRAYER:

Glorious St Isidore, intercede for us who invoke you and for all farmers, that all farms may work to accomplish the aim of providing good food for people all over the world and for the birds and hearts on whom our Heavenly Father’s Love feeds and does not allow one of them to perish. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
