ANYONE WHO HUMBLES HIMSELF WILL BE EXALTED (Mt 23:12)

The human heart is haughty until destruction comes, humility goes before honour (Pr 18:12)

Anyone who humbles himself will be exalted (Mt 23:12)

In the mystery of the Incarnation and still more of the cross, Jesus Christ reveals the true power of self-abasement.

Let us pray:

R. Make us wise, O Lord.

You did not think equality with God something to be clung to:

– release us from the desire for power and prestige, we pray. (R.)

You emptied yourself, taking on the nature of a slave:

– free us from all disdain for works of service, we pray. (R.)

You became obedient, even unto death, death on the cross:

– deliver us from the lure of self-sufficiency, we pray. (R.)

(Personal intentions)

Our Father…

O Christ, you washed the feet of your disciples, you who are both Lord and Master. Strip us of the garments of pride and free us to do for one another the tasks of love as you have done them for us. In your name we pray, Lord Jesus Christ, who live and reign, one God with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER TO GIVE YOUR ENTIRE SELF TO JESUS

O my Jesus, here is my tongue, that thou mayest watch over it, that it may not utter more than pleases thee, and that my silence may speak to thee.
Here are my ears, that they may listen only to the voice of duty and to thy Voice, O Jesus!
Here are my eyes, that they may not cease to behold thee in every face and in every work.
Here are my hands and feet, that thou mayest make them agile, that they may be riveted to thy service alone and to the execution of thy desires.
Here are my thoughts, that thy Light may possess them.
Here is my heart, that thy Love, O Jesus, may reign and rest in it!
Amen.

SONNET TO CHRIST CRUCIFIED

I am not moved, my God, to give You love by
thoughts of heaven that You’ve promised me;
nor am I moved by thoughts of dreaded hell
for that alone, to cease offending thee.
I’m moved to see You on the Cross and mocked
with every breath; I’m moved to see Your
body racked with wounds; I’m moved by
Your affronts and by Your death.
I’m moved, in sum, by love for You so great
that I would love You were not heaven there,
and I would fear You, if there were no hell.
You need give me no prize to love You thus,
for even if what I hope I hoped not,
as I now love You I would love You still.

SHORT OFFERING OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

“Eternal Father, look upon the Sacred Heart of Jesus
which I offer You as a vase,
that it may receive the wine of Your justice,
so that in passing through this Holy Channel
Your Justice may be changed for us
into the Wine of Your Mercy!”
– Dictated by Our Lord to Sr Mary of St Peter

PRAYER TO THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS

Precious Blood of Jesus, heal me.
Precious Blood of Jesus, cleanse me.
Precious Blood of Jesus, free me.
Precious Blood of Jesus, wash my thoughts.
Precious Blood of Jesus, purify this situation I am living.
Precious Blood of Jesus!
Precious Blood of Jesus!
Precious Blood of Jesus!
Jesus, have mercy on me!
Alleluia!

(This prayer may be said any day, any time, as often as needed.)

PRAYER FOR THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS TO TEACH US

Sacred Heart of Jesus,
teach me an entire forgetfulness of myself,
since there is no other way of reaching You.
Grant that I may do nothing that is unworthy of You.
Teach me what I ought to do
to attain Your pure love,
for You have inspired me with this desire.
I feel in myself a great longing to please You.
But I am helpless
without Your special light and strength.
O Lord,
do Your Will in me,
though I often opposed it in the past.
You must do all,
Divine Heart of Jesus.
It shall be Your glory alone if I become a Saint,
and it is for Your glory alone
that I desire to be perfect.
Amen.

St Claude de la Columbiere

PRAYER TO JESUS, TRUE MAN – ‘THE-MAN-WHO-IS-LOVE’

O Jesus,
You are true Man.
You took upon Yourself a human body and soul,
You thought with a human mind,
and You acted through a human Will.
But You are far above every other human.
No one ever spoke like You,
with such authority, freedom and gentleness,
indicating the paths of love, justice and sincerity,
and no one ever matched Your teachings.
You spoke about the Mystery of God
in a way so elevated above others
that You make it possible for us
to have a sublime experience of God,
to come to know Him
and achieve a living love for Him.
O Jesus,
no one ever acted like You, either.
You left us an example of the perfect human life:
by Your preference for poverty,
by Your love for the poor and the sick,
by Your concern for the suffering,
by Your liberating message of salvation,
by Your espousal of peace and service,
by Your obedience to the Father –
even to the death of the Cross.
O Jesus,
help us to know You more
so that we may know ourselves more.
Help us to live with You
so that we may live fully human lives.
Satisfy our human hunger with Yourself,
who are the Man for others and for God,
the Man with others and with God,
perfect Love,
the Man-who-is-Love,
and the God-who-is-Love.
Amen.
