PRAYER FOR CATECHISTS

PRAYER FOR CATECHISTS

LET THEM COME TO ME, FOR OF SUCH IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.

O Jesus, Friend of children, Who from thy most tender years didst grow visibly in wisdom and in grace before God and men; Who at the age of twelve east seated in the Temple, in the midst of the doctors, listening to them attentively, asking them questions, and exciting their admiration by the prudence and wisdom of thy discourse; Who didst receive so willingly the children, blessing them and saying to thy disciples: “Let them come to Me, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven,” inspire me as thou didst inspire Blessed Peter Canisius, model and guide of the perfect Catechist, with a profound respect and a holy affection for childhood, a taste and a marked devotion for instructing them in Christian doctrine, a special aptitude in making them understand its mysteries, and love its beauties. I ask this of thee, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

BLESSED BE THE HOUR IN WHICH THE INCARNATE GOD WAS BORN

BLESSED BE THE HOUR IN WHICH THE INCARNATE GOD WAS BORN

PRAYER OF ST COLETTE

For any Spiritual or Temporal Favour

[This prayer was given to St Colette by an Angel, who appeared visibly in the choir before the Religious. It is daily recited in all her Convents. – Life, p. 141. The original copy is still preserved at Besançon.]

Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father, etc.

Blessed be the hour in which the Incarnate God was born; blessed be the Holy Spirit by Whose operation Jesus Christ was conceived; blessed be the glorious Virgin Mary of whom the Word Incarnate was born; through the intercession of the glorious Virgin Mother and in remembrance of the most sacred hour in which the Incarnate Word was born, may the Lord hear my prayers and accomplish my desires. O Jesus, Who art mercy and goodness itself, do not abandon me on account of my sins or punish me as I deserve, but graciously hear my humble prayer, and grant me the favour that I ask for thy honour and the glory of thy holy name. Amen.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL

Most glorious Virgin, chosen by the Eternal Counsel to be the Mother of the Eternal Word made flesh, treasure of divine grace and advocate of sinners, I, the most unworthy of thy servants, beseech thee to be my guide and counsellor in this vale of tears.

Obtain for me by the most Precious Blood of thy Son the pardon of my sins, the salvation of my soul, and the means necessary to obtain it. Grant that the Holy Catholic Church may triumph over her enemies, and that the Kingdom of Christ may be propagated on earth. Amen.

AFFECTIONATE ASPIRATIONS TO JESUS SUFFERING AND AGONISING

Jesus, poor and abject, have mercy on us.

Jesus, unknown and despised, ~

Jesus, hated, ccalumniated, and persecuted, ~

Jesus, forsaken by men and tempted by the devil, ~

Jesus, betrayed and sold for a vile sum, ~

Jesus, blamed, accused, and condemned unjustly, ~

Jesus, clothed in a garb of disgrace and shame, ~

Jesus, buffeted and mocked, ~

Jesus, dragged with a cord around thy neck, ~

Jesus, scourged even to blood, ~

Jesus, to whom Barabbas was preferred, ~

Jesus, covered with infamy, ~

Jesus, crowned with thorns and mockingly saluted, ~

Jesus, loaded with the cross, our sins, and the maledictions of the people, ~

Jesus, sorrowful even unto death, ~

Jesus, overwhelmed with insults, sorrows, and humiliations, ~

Jesus, insulted, spat upon, beaten, outraged, and treated as a fool, ~

Jesus, suspended on the infamous wood of the cross between thieves, ~

Jesus, dishonoured before men, ~

Let us pray.

O good Jesus, Who hast suffered for the love of us an infinity of insults, and such humiliations as we cannot comprehend, imprint deeply in our hearts an esteem and love for them, and make us desire to practise them. Amen.

COME, O HOLY GHOST, THOU SPIRIT OF TRUTH AND LOVE

COME, O HOLY GHOST, THOU SPIRIT OF TRUTH AND LOVE

PREPARATION FOR CONFESSION

Prayer to the Holy Ghost

Come, O Holy Ghost, thou Spirit of truth and love, enlighten my understanding that I may truly know my sins. Let me see all my offences as clearly as they will appear before me one day when I go before my Divine Judge.

Place before me the greatness of my disloyalty and unfaithfulness. Let me clearly behold how often and to what extent I have sinned against God, against my neighbour, and against myself, the good which I have omitted, and the duties of my state which I have neglected; help me that I may clearly recognise my predominant passion, and the sins which, alas, have become habitual.

Move my heart that I may sincerely repent of my sins and truly and unreservedly confess them, and that with an efficacious purpose of amendment I may be found worthy of forgiveness, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Holy Mary, Mother of grace and refuge of sinners, pray for me now that I may make a good confession.

PRAYER TO ST MALACHY

PRAYER TO ST MALACHY

PRAYER TO ST MALACHY

(By St Bernard)

(Feast, November 3rd.)

O illustrious St Malachy, great was the Divine goodness in thy regard in making thee so humble in thine own eyes, and so noble in the eyes of God. Be to us, O great St Malachy! another Moses or another Elias, filling us with thy heavenly spirit. O thou light! shining in darkness, and lighting up the shadows of our land of exile by the splendour of thy miracles and the glory of thy merits, drive far from our hearts the darkness of sin.

O, morning star! outshining the rest in brightness, vouchsafe to go before us that we also may walk in the ways of light. O heavenly dawn! illumining the earth, bring us with thee to the possession of that glory that thou art now enjoying in Heaven; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Who with the Father and the Holy Ghost, liveth and reigneth, God for ever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE VEN. FR. OLIER

PRAYER OF THE VEN. FR. OLIER

O Jesus, living in Mary, come and live in thy servants, with the spirit of thine own holiness, the fullness of thy strength, the reality of thy virtues, the perfection of thy ways, the communion of thy mysteries, and, for the glory of thy Father, rule by thy spirit over every adverse power. Amen.

[Indulgence of 300 days to those who, with contrite heart, devoutly recite this prayer. Pius IX., October 1859.]

PRAYER TO OUR LORD AFTER COMMUNION

PRAYER TO OUR LORD AFTER COMMUNION

Dearest Jesus, suffer not my tongue, which has been and is so often purpled with thy Precious Blood, to speak well of myself or ill of others, so that no uncharitable word may be recorded in the “Book of Life” on the day of Judgment. Accept all the victories I gain over my tongue as a preparation for my next Communion.
